He was taken to the hospital and underwent brain surgery for a subdural hematoma, but the procedure was unsuccessful: the boxer's death was announced on August 9th .
Another 28-year-old boxer, Hiromasa Urakawa, died around the same time. He also underwent surgery following his match against Yoji Saito, which he lost due to brain damage. The operation also failed.
