In Madrid, Carlo Ancelotti has been handed down a mixed sentence for a tax dispute involving income declared in 2014 and 2015 during his time at Real Madrid. For 2014, the coach was given a one-year suspended prison sentence and a €386,000 fine, while for 2015, he was acquitted.

Carlo Ancelotti had declared himself a resident of England, but the Spanish tax authorities applied a higher rate , imposing fines and higher taxes, which the coach had already paid. However, the recent ruling provides for a refund of approximately €3 million to Ancelotti, thanks to a favorable tax review for 2015, representing some financial consolation despite the conviction.

According to the EFE news agency, Section 30 of the Provincial Court of Madrid also ruled that Ancelotti will lose his right to public aid or subsidies and to benefit from tax or social security benefits for three years. The Prosecutor's Office had accused him of tax evasion totaling €1,062,079, relating to the fiscal years 2014 (€386,361) and 2015 (€675,718).

The conviction does not carry a mandatory prison sentence , as the Italian coach has no criminal record . Spanish law excludes prison sentences of less than two years for non-violent crimes, provided the defendant has no criminal record.
