Montemurlo District Tournament, the 34th edition is underway

Montemurlo, June 11, 2025 - Everything is ready for the 34th edition of the Montemurlo district tournament , promoted by the District Tournament Committee, the “Il borgo della Rocca” association with the support and patronage of the Municipality of Montemurlo and the collaboration of Uisp - Sport per tutti. In Montemurlo the cheering is already sky-high and the streets are colored with the flags, cockades and banners of the seven competing teams: Popolesco, Fornacelle, Bagnolo, Oste, Novello, Morecci, Strada Mulino. Kick-off is scheduled for Monday, June 16 at 9:30 pm at the “Ado Nelli” stadium in Oste with the match Popolesco - reigning champion - against Novello . For a few years now, the district tournament has returned to being not only a moment of sport, but an opportunity for many young people and the very young to meet up and socialise. Before the start of the actual Tournament, the “Nelli” stadium will be the stage for another important match: the final of the “Supercoppa provinciale pratese” that will see the winning teams of the respective tournaments face off, the Rossi di Santa Trinita di Prato and the Rione Popolesco di Montemurlo. A collaboration that began last year and that now takes shape with the organization of a Provincial District Tournament. The appointment is for Friday 13 June at 9:30 pm.

" The Rioni tournament is enthusiasm, participation, true and healthy competition and we are preparing to experience a beautiful month of sport and colors. - says Mayor Simone Calamai - It is always a joy to follow the games and be part of the fans in the stands. A beautiful event that was able to bring many people back to the Nelli stadium and recreate a positive climate of sport and sociality. I would like to thank the organizers for the important work they do but above all the boys who want to play and who always give so much emotion ".

The Montemurro district tournament will therefore kick off on June 16 with the parade of the competing district flags and the return of the 2024 District Cup won by the Popolesco district, which won its seventh cup last July. "Winning the Torneo dei Rioni is always a great feeling, we at Popolesco have won five in the last eight years. The people are always with us and it's a great celebration. This year it will be very tough because the teams from the other districts are very strong but we will give our all to bring home the Cup", adds Stefano Fiesoli , manager of Rione Popolesco.

«Thanks to the participation and collaboration of all seven districts, we managed to organize the 34th edition of the Tournament well in advance and with just four meetings - explains the president of the district Tournament committee , Alessandro Franchi - The formula of the Tournament does not change and we expect great participation also in the stands, as has been the case for a few years. It is enough to remember that At the 2024 final we had 2,000 fans. A tournament that can unite generations, from children to the elderly, and that can give a moment of joy and healthy competition" . The sports councilor, Valentina Vespi, makes an appeal for fair play and emphasizes: " Let's have fun but always with respect for the opponent. The tournament represents the most important sporting event of the year, the organization never stops and is made possible thanks to the great commitment and the big heart that all the Districts put into the event"

The final will be played on July 22nd at the “Nelli” stadium. Five groups are planned. The playoffs will start on July 14th . Finally, President Alessandro Franchi invites all the fans of the various Montemurlo districts to support the Popolesco district in the Supercup of the Districts that will be played on Friday June 13th at 9:30 pm : «We must be united to support the Popolesco that represents all of Montemurlo in this competition at the provincial level».
