Democratic Regression Underway…

Democratic Regression Underway…

Just take note of the decree that creates and defines the composition of the Electoral Reform Commission signed by Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo and published this Monday in the Official Gazette , to confirm that the process of democratic regression driven from the darkest four-party strongholds encouraged by its perverse founder and guide Andrés Manuel López Obrador is underway and will not stop until it manages to impose in Mexico a dictatorial government in the image and likeness of those now in force in Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua and other "friendly countries"...

In view of the incorporation of figures such as Rosa Icela Rodríguez from the Ministry of the Interior, Ernestina Godoy, José Merino, Lázaro Cárdenas, Jesús Ramírez or Arturo Zaldívar, all of whom are unacceptable, just like their questioned coordinator Pablo Gómez Álvarez, it is more than clear the direction that the "work" to be carried out will take and the importance that the contributions of the announced discussion forums will have in defining reforms to the current electoral legislation, to know the opinions of specialists and more, those of the (manipulated) "good and wise" people whose comments, it is said, will also be required...

The same will not apply to current and former members of official bodies such as the National Electoral Institute (INE) and the Electoral Tribunal of the Federal Judicial Branch, or to organized society as well. In this case, the expectation is that their voices will be heard, but only that, since if they are granted the power to define changes through voting, little or nothing is said.

And as for the issues to be considered in a potential reform initiative sponsored by the Executive Branch, although nothing is mentioned in the decree, we already know of the proposal to reduce the number of federal deputies and senators by canceling multi-member constituencies, reducing financial contributions to political parties, and, although not everything is clear yet, changing regulations with the covert intention of enabling control over selection processes and the configuration of the governing bodies of the three branches of government.

A real and dangerous democratic regression, then…

Asterisks

  • And more: it was up to the Mexican Bar Association (BMA), led by Ana María Kudisch, to raise its voice again to denounce the 4T's onslaught against freedom of expression and warn that any attempt to silence critical voices, manipulate information, or restrict free and plural debate "is a threat to democratic coexistence."

Let's see you next Wednesday with another matter of Political Essence.
