Port works in Progreso; work is underway to preserve the Blue Flag.

PROGRESO.— During a special City Council session held Wednesday afternoon, new actions were presented to strengthen urban development and environmental conservation.
Two main topics were addressed during the session: the first, the criteria of the international "Blue Flag" program, which promotes environmental protection and quality on tourist beaches; and the second, new paving works in various areas of the port.
As explained in the session, these actions respond to the goal of generating long-term benefits for families in La Progreso.
Regarding the "Blue Flag" program , it was established that the City Council will work on five strategic axes to monitor and maintain the distinction: Sustainable Initiatives, Animal Welfare Policy, Sustainable Public Transportation Routes, Sustainable Beach Operations, and Tourist Information and Sites.
Each of these areas, it was noted, already has defined objectives, as well as implementation processes and measurable scopes, with the goal of achieving concrete results in the short and medium term.
Citizens were encouraged to stay informed through official channels so they could learn firsthand about the progress being made in environmental and urban matters.
Regarding paving works, it was reported that work will be carried out in Chicxulub Puerto, Chuburná Puerto, and the Flamboyanes district , which will improve connectivity and road safety in these communities.
As part of an exercise in transparency and accountability, the City Council formally approved the verdict of the jury that selected teacher Ernesto Muñoz López as the recipient of the Juan Miguel Castro Martín Medal of Honor , who will also receive the distinction of Distinguished Citizen 2025.
