MEXICO CITY (apro).- The president of the Senate's Board of Directors, Gerardo Fernández Noroña, met with former president Felipe Calderón Hinojosa during Pope Leo XIV's public audience at the Vatican.

It was the Morena legislator himself who announced the coincidence on his account on the social network X:

“The cynical @FelipeCalderon at the audience with Pope Leo XIV. Today, the usurper represents absolutely nothing. Half of @AccionNacional was here with their usual hypocrisy.”

The post was accompanied by a photo showing Calderón Hinojosa in profile, with his wife, Margarita Zavala, visible behind him.

It was she who responded to him on the same social network:

“A hypocrite is someone who, like you, insults and despises Catholics and the Church and, at the same time, comes looking for a photo with the Pope,” he wrote.

The exchange didn't go any further. Fernández Noroña then posted an image of the pontiff and the message: "So we had an audience with Pope Leo XIV. I'm not making a fuss about it; it was a huge crowd. I was certainly in a good place."

The Morena party member traveled to Europe to participate in the Second Parliamentary Conference on Interreligious Dialogue, where he declared himself an atheist and called for peace in Palestine.
