Mataró Hospital designated as a University Hospital of the UAB

Mataró Hospital, a center belonging to the Maresme Health Consortium (CSdM), has been officially designated a University Hospital thanks to the agreement signed between the CSdM, the Department of Health, and the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB). This agreement consolidates a collaboration that dates back to 2000, during which these institutions have worked together in academic training and research in biomedicine and health sciences. With this new status, Mataró University Hospital is strengthened as a leading center in the Maresme region for teaching, research, and healthcare innovation.
A commitment to training, teaching, and innovation in healthcare. The agreement will allow undergraduate students to pursue their academic and practical training at the Hospital and at the CSdM's associated centers. Among the degrees that will benefit from this agreement are the Bachelor's Degree in Medicine, the Bachelor's Degree in Speech Therapy, the Master's Degree in General Health Psychology, and various programs in the field of biosciences. Furthermore, the agreement consolidates and strengthens the postgraduate, master's, and doctoral programs already offered at the CSdM with the UAB, and allows CSdM researchers access to the UAB campus to develop their projects.

Furthermore, the agreement includes the creation of affiliated professor positions—in addition to the existing associate professors and teaching assistants—as well as the possibility of integrating university researchers into the institution's healthcare projects.
Boosting innovation in healthcare and improving the quality of care. One of the main objectives of this agreement is also to strengthen the CSdM's lines of research and innovation in healthcare, sharing material and human resources with the university, promoting applied research, and fostering the transfer of knowledge in the healthcare and social sectors. It will also contribute to the continuous improvement of healthcare, ensuring that healthcare professionals in training have access to the most advanced methodologies and the practical experience necessary to address the challenges of the sector.
This concert represents a great opportunity and a great challenge to strengthen the academic, scientific and healthcare level of our professionals. Rafael Lledó, CSdM Manager
According to Rafael Lledó, manager of the CSdM, "this agreement with the UAB, one of the 200 best universities in the world, represents a great opportunity and, at the same time, a major challenge to strengthen the academic, scientific, and healthcare levels of our professionals, as well as a major step forward for our institution and the region."
Javier Lafuente, rector of the UAB, states that this connection between the Hospital and the University "establishes strategic synergies between the academic and professional worlds, which mutually benefit and enhance their potential." He also asserts that, with this agreement, the UAB "expands its scope of action to the Maresme region and thus strengthens its impact on the region, something crucial for us because the transfer of knowledge to society as a whole and the connection with the institutional and productive fabric of our surroundings are essential objectives."

For the mayor of Mataró, David Bote, this is "very good news. This new phase will allow us to continue improving the quality of care received by our residents of Mataró and all the municipalities served by the Hospital. Mataró is a Caring City; we have been working on this strategic line for some time."
The University Hospital represents a decisive step in the strategy to become a center of excellence in healthcare, training, research, and innovation, with a direct impact on the quality of teaching and healthcare innovation in the region. Furthermore, with this agreement, the UAB expands its network of university hospitals, which also includes the Vall d'Hebron Hospital and the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau in Barcelona, the Germans Trias i Pujol Hospital in Badalona, and the Parc Taulí Hospital in Sabadell.
