After a series of attacks on women that took place in Zagłębie in the years 1964-1971, Zdzisław Marchwicki and several other people sat in the dock in September 1974. The trial was a media event and took place in a specially adapted hall of the Factory Club of the Zinc Plants "Silesia" in Katowice. Tickets were issued for the hearings. The hall was full every day. In July 1975, Marchwicki was sentenced to death for 14 murders and six attempted murders, as well as a number of other crimes. The sentence was carried out on April 26, 1977.
