Demolition begins. This is the first expressway of its kind in Poland

Strabag will dismantle the old surface and make a new one for PLN 37.1 million. However, this is a so-called basic order, and the task also includes the possibility of renovating another 3 km as an extension of the main order. The GDDKiA branch ultimately intends to renovate a 12 km section .
The works will cover the first, so-called experimental section made over 20 years ago in order to check how the cement concrete technology would work in the weather conditions prevailing in our country . According to the assumptions at that time, the durability of the renovated surface was estimated at 20 years and these assumptions proved true.
- explains the General Directorate.
The concrete section in question was built in 2002, before the expansion of DK8 to expressway standards. Currently, its surface is already heavily worn, hence the decision to renovate it.
The renovation will take about 4 months. The new surface will be in a different technology.Łódź GDDKiA informs that the old 28 cm thick surface on the carriageway towards Warsaw will be dismantled and then replaced with a new bituminous surface, reinforced with a special mesh. Finally, the horizontal markings will be recreated using thick-layer technology.

- The change in the technology of the surface construction is due to practical reasons . The renovation will be done faster and will be possible to implement in stages - indicates the management, which expects the works to last about 4 months.
Traffic on the second carriageway with a speed limit of 80 km/h. They may close the junction connectorsDuring the renovation , traffic in both directions will take place on the second carriageway, in a 1+1 arrangement with a speed limit of 80 km/h . The possibility of closing the junction connectors that will be on the route of the works is also being considered.
- However, access to facilities such as petrol stations, motels, etc. is to be maintained. The contractor will be able to carry out work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including public holidays - emphasises GDDKiA.
