Łukasz Żak finally appeared in court. He called his co-defendants the wronged parties

In a collision in mid-September 2024, Volkswagen driver Łukasz Żak allegedly drove at high speed into the car of a family with two children. As a result of the incident, the man in the hit vehicle died at the scene of the accident.

The man fled to Germany immediately after the incident, and his friends helped him leave Poland and avoid the police raid. No one helped the injured family, and attempts were made to blame Żak's ex-partner.
It was emphasized that the 26-year-old suspected of causing the accident was a repeat offender. He had been convicted multiple times, including for driving under the influence of alcohol, fraud, and possession of drugs. He was also banned from driving.
After 9 months, Łukasz Żak finally appeared in court. An extradition procedure was necessary for this, but finally the trial began on June 17. The accused were 6 people who, according to investigators, began to obstruct and hinder the work of the police after the accident.
Łukasz Żak pleaded guilty to two chargesŁukasz Żak himself admitted to two charges: driving a Volkswagen at the time of the incident and speeding. He denied driving at 226 km/h at that time. He noted that he did not intend to testify at this stage of the trial.
The man decided to apologize to the family of Mr. Rafał, who died in the accident. He also apologized to his ex-girlfriend and his co-accused colleagues. He emphasized that he considers them to be wronged in the entire incident.
– Do you mean the men in the dock? – asked Judge Maciej Mitera. – For me, they are the wronged, exactly. I apologize again – emphasized Żak. Also in the dock were Mikołaj N., Damian J. and Maciej O. (failure to provide assistance and aiding and abetting), Kacper K. (driving under the influence of alcohol) and Aleksander G. (aiding and abetting).
First convicted after an accident on Trasa ŁazienkowskaIn this case, one person has already been convicted. Adam K. decided to voluntarily submit to punishment. He provided his apartment and landline phone, thanks to which Łukasz Żak could organize his escape from the country. He heard a sentence of 5 months in prison and a year and a half of community service. He must also pay PLN 8,000 in compensation to the victims of the accident.
A separate trial awaits Kacper D., who is accused of taking Łukasz Ż. by car to the border in Świecko and later to Lübeck, Germany, which was supposed to help him escape justice.
