No Tusk's Revenge on Hołownia? "The End of Szymon in Politics"

A few days later, Onet reported that an alternative scenario was also being negotiated—keeping Hołownia as Speaker of the Sejm until the end of the term. On Tuesday, Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced on the X platform that he accepted Hołownia's explanation on this matter and that "the government has a stable majority." Behind the scenes, however, there are rumors that the political future of the Poland 2050 leader has reached a turning point.
Szymon Hołownia tried to downplay the matter on social media, but his explanations did not convince his closest colleagues.
"The excitement and excitement surrounding my meeting yesterday is neither justified nor advisable," he wrote, adding: "And the time? It's not unusual for my workday to end around midnight. Yesterday, at 9:30 p.m., I landed in Warsaw after a day filled with Marshal duties in Gdańsk and Grudziądz, and this was my only 'slot' for a meeting and conversation that day. End of explanation."The calm before the storm
Within the Platform itself, opinions are strong.
"He quickly wore out his political life for such a star. His limited political experience showed, much less than his ego," says one member of the PO leadership, quoted by Interia.
Another party politician uses a football metaphor: "There's a classic from a PZPN congress where one of the activists tells the media: 'Well, Potok came out and embarrassed himself, f...ing.' Today, Hołownia embarrassed himself in his own electorate." He adds: "If someone cried over the constitution and then goes to make a pact with the one who destroyed it for years, it's a joke, not very funny."
Although Donald Tusk maintains a cool tone and avoids warlike rhetoric—"I took Szymon Hołownia's explanations and declaration at today's meeting of Coalition leaders seriously. The government has a stable majority"—the diagnosis among Civic Platform (PO) activists is clear: "This is the end of Szymon in politics, and certainly in serious politics. You don't survive shots like that."
Poland 2050 on the BrinkThe situation within Poland 2050 is even more dramatic. Izabela Bodnar left the party, claiming that her group "legitimizes the illegal actions of the Law and Justice party." MP Tomasz Zimoch, in turn, stated bluntly that "there is no excuse for Hołownia's behavior" and that his subsequent explanations were "humiliating." The club suspended him from membership for a month.
Collaborators from the Civic Coalition have no illusions about the future of Hołownia's formation.
"I don't know if Hołownia needs to be politically assassinated. Voters have just shown him his place. And now, too, it won't be Tusk, but Hołownia's voters who will show him what they think about all this. I wouldn't want to be in the shoes of the MPs from Poland 2050, who have been receiving emails, letters, and phone calls from enraged voters since Friday," emphasizes one Civic Coalition MP."Treason" without punishment, but with consequences
Contrary to appearances, the Civic Coalition is not dominated by the desire for revenge.
"Hołownia did less harm to our coalition, more harm to his party, his colleagues, but above all to himself. The issue of retaining the Sejm Speaker's seat – after all, Hołownia had such ambitions – has now been finally closed," notes one member of the Civic Platform leadership. "Now Hołownia will be deeply humbled, as will his colleagues."
Most observers agree that Poland 2050 "has been labeled traitors since Friday," and Hołownia himself can now only count on the loyalty of those who have no alternatives.
"Hołownia can count on some sabers until the very end, either Poland 2050 or his own. Does he have 32 sabers on his side? I highly doubt it," a senior Civic Platform (KO) politician says bluntly in an interview with Interia.A scratch that can't be erased
Although Tusk himself assures that "maintaining the coalition is difficult, but possible," there are voices within the party that the real bond between the government partners has been irreversibly damaged. "It doesn't look good for the coalition, its cohesion, and its future," admits one PO politician. Another adds bluntly: "Well, there won't be any trust here anymore, definitely not."
The next prospect is equally bleak: "This will be a diet coalition, focused on perseverance and the collection of diets. There will be perseverance, mutual undermining, and constant searching for lifeboats. This will also apply within this coalition."
Behind the scenes, there's also talk of the political potential of this story: "If they betray, they betray. And bye-bye. At least we'll have some history, our 'night shift.'" And what if there are early elections? "At least we have a story about why this government didn't succeed. Because Szymon betrayed, because he sabotaged the work of the coalition and the government. This is a story about politics for difficult times."
