Strong storms rolled through Poland. IMGW issued new alerts

On Thursday at midnight, firefighters from Małopolska recorded 500 calls related to storm damage. In the Krakow district alone, there were as many as 200 interventions. Outside of the Krakow district, firefighters had the most work in the Wadowice district, where they cleared culverts and removed broken branches from communication routes. Fortunately, no injuries or damages were reported.
In Krakow, on Konopnicka Street towards Rondo Grunwaldzkie, the passage was blocked by a fallen tree. In Trzebinia (Chrzanów district), a section of the roof of the Minor Basilica with an area of approximately 400 m² was damaged. Fortunately, water did not get into the interior of the church, and firefighters secured the roof.
It was also dangerous in Silesia. In the town of Pisarzowice, significant amounts of hail fell, which was immortalized in recordings posted online.
The Voivode of Małopolska, Krzysztof Jan Klęczar, called a meeting of the Provincial Crisis Management Team for Friday at 8:00 a.m. due to the weather situation.
The Main Headquarters of the State Fire Service reported that by 9:30 p.m., 837 reports had been received nationwide related to the removal of the effects of dangerous weather phenomena. The situation was particularly difficult in the Płock district in the Mazovian province.
Difficult road conditionsOn Thursday evening, poor road conditions prevailed, including in the vicinity of the Lesser Poland town of Zator.
On the S1 route in Bielsko-Biała, drivers stopped under the viaduct to avoid hail damage to their car bodies.
The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management (IMGW) raised the warning level to the highest, third level on Thursday evening. Forecasted wind gusts may reach up to 120 km/h. The Government Security Center issued a storm alert for parts of three provinces: Silesia, Lesser Poland and Świętokrzyskie.
According to IMGW forecasts, on Friday, June 6, 2025, the country will be under the influence of a low from the Norwegian Sea, which will bring showers and storms. The maximum temperature will range from 18°C in the northwest, around 25°C in the center, to 31°C in the southeast.
There will also be storms, which may be accompanied by rainfall of up to 30 mm. Hail is possible locally. The wind will be mostly from the south-west and west, initially weak, moderate and quite strong during the day. During storms, wind gusts may reach speeds of up to 65 km/h, and locally in the south-east even up to 80 km/h. High in the mountains, especially in the Sudetes, gusts may reach 90 km/h.
Meteorological warningsIMGW has issued weather warnings . Second-degree heat warnings are in effect in the Podkarpackie province, where the maximum temperature may rise to 30°C, and the minimum at night will be 19°C. The warnings will be in effect until 6:00 p.m.
In other regions, such as the Silesian, Lesser Poland and Świętokrzyskie provinces, warnings are in effect for storms with hail and strong winds. Residents of these areas should exercise particular caution and avoid being outdoors during storms.
Night from Friday to SaturdayOn the night from Friday to Saturday, there will be a lot of cloud cover, with clearings and clearings in places. Initially, storms and disappearing rain may still occur in the southeast. The total rainfall at night should not exceed 10 mm. The temperature will be from 11°C in the north, through about 15°C in the center, to 17°C in the southeast. The wind will be weak and moderate, gusty in places, mostly southwest. High in the Sudetes, wind gusts of up to 90 km/h are still possible.
