The historic church bell tower in Radymno will undergo renovation

This concerns a subsidy for conservation, restoration and renovation works on the elevation of the church bell tower at Szopena Street. By decision of the councillors, which was the result of an application for financial assistance submitted by the parish priest of St. Lawrence in Radymno, Fr. Grzegorz Kowalczyk, it was possible to allocate PLN 100,000 for this purpose in the city budget.

The historic brick building certainly needs restoration and renovation work at the moment. The brick two-storey bell tower of the church of St. Lawrence in Radymno was built in 1729, replacing an earlier wooden bell tower. It has three arcades in the lower part, in which there are three bells. They are not original, the parish lost those in the course of warfare. According to historical sources, during World War I (during the great battle of the San in May 1915), the Austrian authorities confiscated a bell from 1660 with a diameter of 114 cm and a weight of 802.5 kg, cast in Lubaczów. During World War II in 1943, the Germans took away from Radymno another bell from 1636, weighing 600 kg and a diameter of 85 cm.

A thorough renovation of the church's bell tower was carried out only in 1958, on the initiative of Father Franciszek Michalec. The historic religious building gained new bells on May 13, 1962. They come from the workshop of Jan Felczyński and bear the names "Wawrzyniec" - 1200 kg, "Maria" - 700 kg and "Mikołaj" - 300 kg.
