The Pomeranian metropolis wants to integrate public transport

The Pomeranian metropolis wants to integrate public transport

The document is intended to, among other things, designate models for the integration of public transport in terms of cooperation between municipal transport companies and local government units, as well as tariff and ticket integration, along with a multi-year forecast of the financial consequences.

The development of a concept for the integration of public transport will accelerate the organization of metropolitan transport

The developed concept of the public transport integration system will be used by the authorities of the Gdańsk-Gdynia-Sopot Metropolitan Area to efficiently implement the provisions of the draft act on the metropolitan union in the Pomeranian Voivodeship, currently being processed by the government. It will also serve to amend certain other acts.

The information emphasises that the data collected during the analysis will also be necessary to efficiently organise the public transport system at the metropolitan level.

- The document will be one of the necessary elements in the preparatory process for the establishment of the future metropolitan association and a single transport authority in this association – informs Maciej Jendryczka, transport and mobility coordinator at OMGGS, quoted in the text.

He also emphasises that in order to establish such a single metropolitan transport authority, it is necessary to learn the principles of operation of the existing public transport authorities at the financial level.

OMGGS is thinking about a unified management system

- The study will also help answer the question of what effects the introduction of different fare models and the unification of the discount system in public transport will have. It will also propose recommendations on how to collect financial and functional data related to the management of public transport in the future - said Maciej Jendryczka.

The Gdańsk-Gdynia-Sopot Metropolitan Area (OMGGS) is an association of 61 cities, communes and counties of the Pomeranian Voivodeship, home to 1.6 million people. It was established on the initiative of the mayor of Gdańsk, Paweł Adamowicz, in 2011.
