What books to take on vacation? Paulina from Well.pl recommends crime riddles and (not) absurd questions.

Vacation is the perfect time to catch up on your reading. If you're unsure which ones are worth throwing into your suitcase, our publisher Paulina is here to help. We invite you to the next installment of the Well Recommends series.

My friend Ignacy took you to the world of music, Angelika to Italy and the land of love, and I'll present a handful of suggestions for fans of crime stories and spine-chilling reportage. But not only that!

Don't get me wrong, there are times when I love to reach for something light—a pleasant romance or a suspense novel. However, my truest love is crime novels, moving accounts of true crimes and mysteries, but also popular science fiction. And it is precisely in these categories that the three titles I've selected for you fall. So let's start with the first one.

"Murdle. 100 crime puzzles to solve using logic, knowledge, and the art of deduction" - GT Karber, Publisher Publicat

Do you enjoy solving Sudoku and detective puzzles? "Murdle" combines them perfectly. It's a collection of 100 puzzles about Detective Logico , who must uncover the truth behind mysterious murders. You receive clues and clues, but the solution to the mystery is yours. By filling in specially prepared fields, you deduce who committed the crime, where, and with what. And then you catch the criminal!

The book is divided into different difficulty levels, so there's something for everyone. I guarantee you won't be bored with "Murdle"! What's more, it won the 2024 British Book Awards Book of the Year award.

"Satan in Our Home: Behind the Scenes of an Investigation into a Ritual Crime" - Lawrence Wright, Czarne Publishing House

The American series from Czarne Publishing is absolutely one of my favorite book series. I devoured almost every one of these reports with bated breath, and the issues they cover are both shocking and intriguing. "Satan in Our Home," which told the shocking investigation into Paul Ingram, resonated with me for a long time and provoked reflection on human nature.

I don't want to spoil it for you, but briefly: Paul was an employee in the sheriff's office. Respected, with an impeccable reputation, until his children began accusing him of violence. During the crime, horrifying details about the Satanic cults that were rampant in the US in the 1980s came to light. It turned out that what appears beautiful and polished on the surface often begins to rot from the inside. If you enjoy gripping crime stories, you'll be delighted with this story.

"What If? What If?" - Randall Munroe, Czarna Owca Publishing House

Finally, something popular science. "What If? Scientific Answers to Absurd and Hypothetical Questions" is a hilarious and incredibly intelligent book, recommended by Bill Gates himself. In it, Randall Munroe answers questions that often wouldn't even occur to you. And even if they did, you wouldn't have a clue how to explain them.

For example, "What would happen if a glass of water suddenly became literally half empty?" or "If all the lightning bolts striking the Earth on a given day struck the same spot at the same time, what would happen there?" The author describes these phenomena in a deceptively simple, enjoyable way, accompanied by humorous illustrations. Suddenly, physics, which I hated in school, became a source of entertainment for me.
