25 percent more for waste. More expensive from July

- Another municipality is raising the fee for waste collection and management.
- Residents will pay PLN 33 instead of the current PLN 26, and in the case of composting bio-waste, the fee will change from PLN 22 to PLN 29.
- Over the last two years, the commune has been contributing from its own funds to the operation of the system.
From 1 July 2025, new rates for municipal waste management will apply in the Potęgowo Commune.
Residents will pay PLN 33 instead of the previous PLN 26, and in the case of composting bio-waste, the fee will change from PLN 22 to PLN 29. This is an increase of PLN 7, or almost 25 percent.
Change of rates due to the rising costs of operating the waste management systemAs the local government explains, the change in rates was necessary due to the rising costs of operating the municipal waste management system.
The rate in the commune has not changed since July 2022, and the past period was a time of crisis events, such as inflation and the economic crisis. The increase in costs is primarily due to the increased amount of waste, a higher minimum wage and inflation. The current rates do not fully cover the costs related to waste collection and management, which causes shortages in the system
- explains the municipal office.
It also turns out that in the waste system in Potęgowo there is a significant gap between the number of registered people and the number reported to the waste fee system. "In practice, this means that some residents do not participate in the costs, which forces the commune to supplement the missing funds from the budget. As a result, this burden falls on the remaining residents who duly submitted declarations," the local government comments.
Once a year, we collect clothes and textiles directly from residents. In the last two years, the commune has contributed its own funds to the operation of the system - PLN 54,000 in 2023 and PLN 486,000 in 2024, which is why - as the commune explains - the decision to change the fees was necessary to maintain an efficient waste collection system and not deepen the deficit, which could negatively affect other important projects in the commune.
From July, mandatory ash segregation is also being introduced in the Potęgowo commune. Residents will be equipped with ash containers, which will be collected according to the collection schedule during the heating season - from October to April.
The commune also decided that once a year it would organise a collection of clothes and textiles directly from residents - on a daily basis, textiles are collected at PSZOK.
