Controls will hit transport and profits. "Everyone will get stuck in traffic jams"

Representatives of the transport industry are warning that after the introduction of border controls with Germany and Lithuania, there will be delays and freight price increases cannot be ruled out, "Rzeczpospolita" reported on Friday.
From midnight on July 7, the Border Guard will begin checking traffic entering Poland at 52 crossings with Germany and 13 with Lithuania. "The Border Guard is to focus on passenger cars and vans, but everyone will get stuck in traffic jams," the daily said.
"Rzeczpospolita", citing the opinions of representatives of the transport industry, also recalled that nearly 10 million trucks cross the Polish-German border every year, servicing trade worth over 170 billion euros between the two countries. Traffic on the Polish-Lithuanian border is smaller, but also counted in millions of trucks.
"For entrepreneurs, even local slowdowns cause long queues, which carriers have been experiencing since October 2023, when Germany introduced controls," we read in the newspaper. (PAP)
