The retail giant's business in Poland is now powered by 100% green energy

The retail giant's business in Poland is now powered by 100% green energy

Pepco in Poland, as one of the first markets in the company's European network, already draws 100% of its energy from renewable sources . This means that all stores and distribution centers in Poland are powered exclusively by energy from renewable sources (RES).

PPAs and Guarantees of Origin for Renewable Energy

- We are committed to reducing the negative impact on the environment in all areas of Pepco's operations. Our sustainable development strategy is based on three pillars: Planet, People and Product. Each of them contains specific, measurable goals. One of our priorities is to reduce CO2 emissions, and the transition to renewable energy in Poland, our largest market among 18 countries in Europe, brings us significantly closer to achieving this goal - says Marcin Stańko, Operations Director for Central and Eastern Europe.

- Pepco in Poland was the first in the entire group to sign a PPA (Power Purchased Agreement) , under which approximately 8 percent of the total electricity consumption is covered by energy coming directly from the photovoltaic farm. It is a proven method of purchasing energy from renewable sources directly from the producer. Additionally, the company has invested in renewable energy guarantees, which cover the remaining consumption - adds Karolina Tarnawska, Group Purchasing Director.

It is estimated that in 2025 alone, all the actions taken will reduce carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere by a total of approximately 42,000 tonnes.

Pepco's strategy is based on three pillars

The new ESG strategy for the Pepco Group is based on three pillars.

Eliminating CO2 emissions from operational activities and supply chain management is one of the goals of the first pillar – "Planet". As part of this pillar, Pepco also plans to reduce the amount of operational waste by 20% by 2030 and design 100% of its own brand packaging with a closed loop in mind.

The second pillar is "People". Pepco aims to ensure that by 2030, 40% of senior positions are held by women , and all of its own brand products come from ethical sources (currently 97.4%).

The goal of the third pillar, “Product,” is to increase responsibly sourced materials in private-label products by 2030 – meaning at least 30 percent certified cotton in these textile products .

Pepco is one of the largest retail chains in Europe. The company, headquartered in Poznań, currently employs over 30,000 people in 18 countries across Europe and has a network of over 3,900 stores.
