US Could Enter War as Trump Targets Iran's Nuclear Program

US Could Enter War as Trump Targets Iran's Nuclear Program
US President Donald Trump

Three American officials told the service that at 1 p.m. on Tuesday (7 p.m. in Poland), Donald Trump was to meet in the Situation Room at the White House with members of the National Security Council to decide on American policy toward a war between Israel and Iran.

Donald Trump is “seriously considering” joining the war against Iran and attacking the country’s nuclear facilities, including the Fordo uranium enrichment plant deep underground in the mountains, sources say.

The US, unlike Israel, has bombers carrying penetrating bombs that could be used to attack underground facilities such as the one at Fordo.

Donald Trump, who left the G7 summit in Canada earlier than planned, said Tuesday he wants a "real end" to the conflict between Iran and Israel, not just a ceasefire. Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, he stressed that Iran must not be allowed to obtain nuclear weapons.

The White House has discussed the possibility of a direct meeting with the Iranians this week, but Trump said it would "depend on what happens" when he returns to Washington.

Two Israeli officials told Axios that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the Israel Defense Forces establishment still believe Donald Trump is most likely to join the war in the coming days to bomb Iran's underground uranium enrichment facility.

The US is currently helping Israel intercept missiles fired by Iran.

As Axios noted, US Vice President JD Vance published a post on social media in which he rejected criticism from some members of the MAGA (Make America Great Again) movement of Donald Trump's involvement in the war.

The vice president wrote on Platform X that Donald Trump has “shown extraordinary restraint” when it comes to keeping the U.S. military focused on protecting American troops and citizens.

"He may decide that he needs to take further action to end Iran's enrichment. That decision is ultimately up to the president. And of course people are right to be concerned about foreign involvement after the last 25 years of idiotic foreign policy," Vance added.

Donald Trump himself posted a series of posts on the Truth Social social network, in which he wrote, among other things, that Iran's political and spiritual leader Ali Khamenei is an "easy target". "We know exactly where the so-called supreme leader is hiding. He is an easy target, but he is safe there. We do not intend to eliminate him (kill him!), at least not yet," the US president declared. "But we do not want missiles fired at civilians or American soldiers. Our patience is running out (...)" - added Donald Trump.
