Agata Łukaszewicz: The conflict over the courts continues
For the past decade, courts and prosecutors in Poland have been deeply divided. A constant battle rages between judges with the old credentials (so-called "old judges") and those appointed by the current National Council of the Judiciary (so-called "neo-judges"). On one side are the rulings of European courts, which challenge the latter. On the other are the laws passed by the Polish parliament, which established or sanctioned the continuation of the most important bodies. President Andrzej Duda recently entered the arena, and the dormant war has been revived.
