Climate policy facing a big change? The new president must face it

Climate policy facing a big change? The new president must face it

The second round of Poland's presidential elections comes at a unique time when many politicians are talking about a possible adjustment to the European Union's climate policy. The European People's Party (EPP), whose members include Donald Tusk and Ursula von der Leyen, announced in January that climate goals can no longer come at the expense of economic competitiveness.

- The European People's Party (…) has decided to change its long-standing rhetoric in a very clear way - comments Kamil Sobolewski, Chief Economist of Employers of Poland. In his opinion, this is a turning point not only for the EU's climate policy, but also for countries such as Poland, which have so far felt overwhelmed by restrictive regulations.

In the opinion of Kamil Sobolewski, chief economist of Employers of Poland, the new EPL declaration is more than a correction. It is a potential opening of a new stage, also for Poland. The expert claims that the current position allows member states much greater flexibility in shaping their own energy policies.

- The position stated that this is a matter of free choice of the member states , in which there does not have to be any top-down declarations - notes Sobolewski and adds.

- The issue is important because it determines the future of the atom - says Sobolewski.
