Alarm for Iga Świątek. It happened during Wimbledon

Alarm for Iga Świątek. It happened during Wimbledon

This result best illustrates how unpredictable tennis can be, especially when looking at the Grand Slam competition. Elisabetta Cocciaretto is currently the 116th player in the WTA rankings. Jessica Pegula? The world's "three".

However, when it came to the first round of Wimbledon, the former proved to be better in two sets. What's more, the Italian won relatively easily, 6:2, 6:3.

Pegula won last Saturday on grass courts at the WTA 500 Bad Homburg tournament. In the final, the American player dealt with Iga Świątek .

Wimbledon: Big surprises at the start of the tournament in London!

The Italian's victory over the American is also an alarming situation for the best Polish singles player. It happens that playing in tournaments just before challenges like the Grand Slam can be treacherous. Hubert Hurkacz, for example, learned this just before competing in Roland Garros 2025. The Polish tennis player reached the ATP 250 final in Geneva. There, he lost to Novak Djokovic - after a great, emotional duel.

One could therefore hope for something big from Hurkacz during the tournament in Paris. And as it turned out, the Pole completely failed and was eliminated from the Grand Slam competition in the first round. He himself explained after the loss in the capital of France what had an impact on his much worse performance.

Pegula also performed very well in Germany, as did Świątek. However, the American showed a much worse side in London. What will happen to the Pole? The fans of the Polish tennis player will find out on Tuesday (i.e. July 1), late afternoon . Then, the number 4 in the WTA ranking will face the Russian, Polina Kudermetova.

The furthest Świątek has reached the legendary London tournament is the quarterfinals – in 2023. How will it be in this year's edition? It seems that it should be good. In the 2025 season, the Pole played in two Grand Slam semifinals, in Melbourne and Paris. Who knows, maybe it's time for a third such result to add to the season's collection.

On the other hand, Wimbledon 2025 is full of surprises from day one.
