Edach Budowlani Lublin will end the season with a match against Juvenia Kraków

The odd number of teams in the competition means that every weekend one of the Ekstraliga teams is suspended. A week ago it was the team from Krakow, next week it will be the Lublin team. Before that happens, both teams will meet in a fight for league points.

It so happens that the last round of the regular season will be played in a week. In June, rugby fans can expect only two clashes, for the medal podium. The teams from 3rd and 4th places will play for bronze, and those from 1st and 2nd places, for the Polish championship.

Last weekend, Edach Budowlani visited the leader in Siedlce. The local Awenta Pogoń has already settled in first place in the table and is patiently preparing its form for the grand finale. In it, it will most likely face ORLEN Orkan Sochaczew. The visit to Siedlce ended, as expected, with a defeat for the Lublin team. Coach Andrzej Kozak's team was unable to cope with the favourites of the competition, losing 24:61.

It was a high loss, although it must be admitted that at one point it looked like a surprise. In the 30th minute Edach Budowlani were leading 10:7. However, the hosts are such an experienced team that they quickly dealt with this problem and even before the break they pulled out the result, winning this part 26:17. After the break, only the Siedlce team ruled the pitch. Ultimately, the leader and candidate for the Polish championship won confidently 61:24.

After losing in Siedlce, with their opponents' unfavourable results, the Lublin team dropped from sixth to seventh place in the table. Their place was taken by the KS Budowlani WizjaMed Łódź team, which won 34:33 in Białystok against the local team Budmex Rugby in the previous round.

The final chord of the 2024/2025 season will be much easier than last week's journey. RzKS Juvenia Kraków is currently the fifth team in the competition. They have six wins and seven losses, and 28 points, five more than Edach Budowlani. The guests have Riaan van Zyl from Namibia in their ranks. This player, who is only 165 cm tall, stands out on the pitch. He has been playing for the Kraków club for three years and is the team's vice-captain. His advantage is high efficiency. He is currently the best scoring player in Juvenia. So far, he has scored 88 "points", which gives him sixth place in the classification of the best scorers. A position higher, with one more point, is the player from Edach Budowlani Kuziwakwashe Kazembe.

- Our problem is that we alternate good periods of play with weaker ones and in that time we lose points, which in consequence results in defeats. We do not look at the table, but with a five-point win and a higher result than we lost in Krakow, i.e. 27:43, and a defeat of the Krakow team in the last home match with Arka Gdynia, we can end the season in fifth place. We will go out on the pitch with the intention of winning at the end of the unsuccessful games for us - says Andrzej Kozak, the coach of the Lublin fifteen.
