Julia Szeremeta won the Feliks Stamm Tournament in Warsaw, which had the rank of the World Cup
In the semi-finals, Szeremeta faced the Englishwoman Sameenah Toussaint. The two women have already met in the ring in the past. It took place at the 2022 European U-22 Championships held in Porec, Croatia. In the 1/8 finals, the Englishwoman dealt with Szeremeta and then finished the entire event with a bronze medal. In the following years, Toussaint did much worse. This year, she has fought only twice, of which she won only once. The victory took place in April in Helsinki, when she defeated Gabriella Weerheim on points.
In the clash with the Olympic vice-champion Toussaint had no chance. She only greeted Szeremeta with an accurate punch at the beginning of the fight, and then she had nothing to say. The Pole skillfully changed positions. She waited for her opponent to go forward, and then sent unpleasant counter-punches. Szeremeta also regulated the pace of the fight and worked very well with her left hand. It is no wonder that all the judges indicated the Paco competitor as the winner. - I said that my hand would go up after the fight. My opponent did not cope with the half-distance fight. I prefer to fight left-handed, and she cannot do that. I like changing positions, because it calms the fight and allows me to fight at my own pace. There was no nervousness in this fight, because I know what my capabilities and skills are. This fight was clean and very nice. I also feel good in terms of fitness. I’m in good shape and I’m not tired at all, Julia Szeremeta told union media.
Friday's final was also a display of the boxing skills of the excellent player Paco Lublin. Her opponent was Khumorabonu Mamajonova from Uzbekistan. The Asian is a rather mysterious player, because she has not shown herself to the general public until now. In the continental U-22 championship, she was eliminated in the first fight, when she was defeated by the Kazakh Anel Sakysh.
It is no wonder that Szermeta started the fight with Mamajonova quite cautiously. However, this does not mean that there was fear in her boxing. Her attitude can rather be described as prudent. Her way of dealing with her rival turned out to be frequent changes of position, which the Uzbek was unable to cope with. In the middle of the round, the Pole went to the half-distance and there treated her opponent with more blows. The judges' scoring was also favorable to the White and Red - 4 judges saw the representative of the hosts as the winner. This determined the further course of the fight, because Mamajonova had to go on the attack. And this exposed her to receiving dangerous counter-blows. And during this period, the Uzbek did indeed receive several such blows. Similarly to the day before, the Pole's left hand worked great in particular. After two rounds, three judges had it leading 20:19. However, 2 referees saw a draw. The last part of the fight was already dictated by Szeremeta, who ultimately won with all 5 judges. Two saw the triumph with a score of 30:27, and three 29:28. - I am very happy about the victory. I was aiming for gold. In the final I wanted to test my opponent and then go down to the half-distance. I completely succeeded. Now it's time for a short break, and then I will start preparing for the world championships in Liverpool - said Julia Szeremeta on TVP Sport.
