Iga Świątek equals personal best at Wimbledon. Shocking breathing problems

Iga Świątek equals personal best at Wimbledon. Shocking breathing problems

Polish tennis fans may have remembered Iga Świątek's Monday (i.e. July 7) opponent from the recent Roland Garros 2025. It was in the capital of France that the Dane defeated another Polish tennis player, Magda Linette, in the first round (6:4, 4:6, 6:1). Clara Tauson faced the chance of a lifetime to enter the Wimbledon quarterfinals as the first Danish player in the history of this legendary tournament.

Wimbledon: Polish woman in quarter-finals! Clara Tauson's shocking problems

Iga Świątek, however, had other plans for this late afternoon, which was turning into evening. Initially, both players were supposed to go out on the court around 6 p.m. Due to the stretching schedule of games that day, the first ball of the Polish-Danish quarterfinal finally hit the court around 8 p.m.

How did the fourth round match between Tauson (No. 23 in the tournament) and Świątek (No. 8) go? Quite surprising. It started very well for the Dane, with two breaks and a relatively certain 3:1 lead in the Dane's favor. However, Tauson behaved strangely on the court. In that, although the Dane is rather... famous for her complaining during matches (she also showed it in the aforementioned match with Linette in Paris), this time it seems that there were actually some health problems of the Polish opponent.

The Dane, who was down 3:1, eventually lost the first set to the Pole 4:6. Świątek, first of all, improved her serve, and additionally threw her opponent from corner to corner, all over the court, and there was practically nothing to collect.

In the second set, it ended with 6:1 for Świątek and a win in two sets. Tauson tried to use the medical consultation between sets, but it was obvious that it did not bring any improvement. The Pole won the match with experience, proper tactical analysis during the meeting and... Tauson's poor form. But that is not Świątek's problem.

The entire meeting lasted almost exactly one hour.

In the quarterfinals, the Pole's opponent will be Ludmila Samsonova. Świątek's match with the Russian, number 19 in the WTA rankings, will take place next Wednesday.

It is worth recalling that the prize pool for this year's edition of Wimbledon is 53.5 million pounds (approx. 267.6 million zloty). The defending singles title is Czech Barbora Krejcikova (dropped out of the tournament) and Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz (still in the game).

Wimbledon matches are shown on Polsat Sport channels. Starting with the main channels, i.e. Polsat Sport 1-3, through Polsat Sport Fight, ending with additional ones - Polsat Sport Premium 1-6. In terms of broadcasts available on the Internet, it is worth using the Polsat Box Go platform, with the appropriate packages purchased.
