Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard made Wimbledon history by posting the fastest serve in the tournament’s history, the Frenchman’s atomic serve in Monday’s match against Taylor Fritz, which was then called off due to the late hour.
The Monday match between Fritz and Perricard was very emotional. The American, who is ranked fifth in the ATP rankings, was the clear favorite, but it was the Frenchman, ranked 36th, who managed to win the first and second sets 7:6.
The representative of the "Tricolours", who will turn 22 on 8th July, showed off a real feat in the form of a breakneck serve at the very beginning of this match. The light board recorded 246 km/h, which is a new record at Wimbledon! Interestingly, such a fast ball to the other side of the net did not guarantee him a point! Fritz not only showed off his return, but also won the action!

After losing two sets, the American started to make up for lost time. He won the third set 6:4, and the fifth 7:6. With the score at 2:2 in the fifth set and over three hours of competition, the referee decided to postpone the match until Tuesday due to the late hour. Fritz did not agree with this decision, which is understandable, because the 27-year-old was doing better in the second part of the match.
The match will resume on Tuesday 1st July at 16:00.
Perricard achieved his best result in Grand Slam tournaments at last year's Wimbledon. The Frenchman reached the fourth round and was eliminated by Lorenzo Musetti, who eliminated... Fritz in the quarterfinals. The American is also last year's quarterfinalist of the Australian Open and a finalist of the US Open.
