Wojciech Szczęsny officially without a club! No one expected that

It is therefore worth asking the question: What is next for Wojciech Szczęsny's career? The answer to this question has been appearing in the Spanish or strictly Catalan media for some time now. The Pole has moved into coach Hansi Flick's team in great style. The German initially did not count on Szczęsny, but when the former Polish national team player and Juventus player got his chance, he used it with interest .
Wojciech Szczęsny's contract with FC Barcelona ends. It's officialLet us recall that the Polish goalkeeper signed a contract with Barca due to a serious injury suffered by Marc-Andre ter Stegen. The absolute "number one" between the posts of Barcelona, a man who also served as the team captain. However, the German had to deal with rehabilitation - as it turned out, lightning fast - and the Pole soon became the new number 1 in the hierarchy of Barcelona.
In the decisive matches of Barca in the fight, whether in the Champions League or LaLiga, it was Szczęsny who guarded the goal of the later champions of Spain. It was quite a treat for Polish fans, because next to "Szczeny", Robert Lewandowski also shone in the attack. Although in the case of the latter, an unfortunate injury happened, which somewhat slowed down the end of the season for "Lewy".
Returning to Szczęsny, he had a contract until June 30, 2025. That deadline hit last Monday. What now? Theoretically, the Pole is a "free agent" and can start talks with a potential new employer.
However, Spanish and Catalan media are reporting that the Polish goalkeeper is to remain at Barcelona until the end of the 2026/27 season, i.e. sign a contract for two more seasons. Szczęsny will become number 2 in the hierarchy, due to the arrival of a new European goalkeeping star to the club in the summer. It is Joan Garcia, a 24-year-old goalkeeper who was brought in from Barca's local rivals, Espanyol.
With this arrangement, with Garcia as the first and Szczęsny providing great cover as the goalkeeping 'two' if needed, Barcelona seem to have this position very strongly filled.
As for contracts, including expiring ones, there has also been a lot of talk in recent weeks about Lewandowski's future in the capital of Catalonia. The Pole has a contract ending at the end of the upcoming campaign, i.e. the 2025/26 season. Barca is not in a hurry to sign a new contract for "Lewy". So will there be a farewell? This cannot be ruled out, the media indicate that at the end of his career the Polish striker may decide to leave, for example, for Saudi Arabia, where the local league is big money and increasingly famous names play, led by Cristiano Ronaldo.
However, we will probably find out in the near future how both Poles will fare in Barca colours. In the 2025/26 season, both should not be missing in the colours of the Spanish champions. It seems, however, that such a duo in such a large club will be a symbolic, Polish "last dance" in the next almost 12 months of club play.
