Rafał Gikiewicz couldn't take it anymore. "I won't let myself be offended"

Rafał Gikiewicz couldn't take it anymore. "I won't let myself be offended"

The goalkeeper of the Łódź team, Rafał Gikiewicz, in a post-match interview for Canal+Sport, responded in harsh words to the criticism that has been heaped on the team after the recent results. He was particularly moved by the accusation of a lack of commitment from the players. "We are playing for a lot of money for a place in the table. If there was no commitment, there are people in the locker room who would pull the ear out of anyone who does not apply themselves," thundered Gikiewicz.

The experienced goalkeeper's statement was a reaction to the wave of hate that fell on Widzew after their poor performance in the classic match against Legia. Gikiewicz in particular came under fire - first he let the ball slip between his legs after a shot by Ryoya Morishita, and then he made a costly mistake when bringing the ball out, which ended with the second goal for the visitors by Marc Guala.

Rafał Gikiewicz with a specific appeal. "Stop hating"

Despite this, Gikiewicz has no intention of burying his head in the sand. "Either we are together as fans and players, or we are not. The club needs time. There will be big changes, but I will not allow myself, my teammates on the pitch, or our locker room to be insulted. Everyone is giving as much as they can," he argued.

The goalkeeper also addressed the broader issue of hate that affects the football community – not only players, but also their families. “A girl at my son’s school took her own life. Stop hating, because a group of people sit in front of a computer and write nonsense,” he said with emotion. “We have young players in the locker room. I know how some of them feel. Ice on their heads, and if necessary, speed up and hit the wall. This is just sport, and we are human,” he concluded emphatically.

Despite the defeat to Legia and the mistakes that affected the result, Gikiewicz showed that he still cares about Widzew's results, although theoretically his club is no longer fighting for big stakes. It will definitely not qualify for European cups and will definitely not be relegated.
