Podkarpackie/ Space camp participants selected to come to Stalowa Wola in August

Recruitment for the space-themed CASSINI Space Camp has concluded. Twenty-five people, selected from across the European Union, will come to Stalowa Wola in August.
Registration for the summer camp, which organizers call a talent incubator, lasted two weeks. Sixty people signed up. Applicants had to be at least 14 years old and no older than 18, and attend a secondary school in the EU. They were assessed on their interests and previous experience in space. In their application, they had to describe their future plans and suggest questions they would like to ask mentors during the camp.
The jury selected 25 people. The international Camp team will include young people from Spain, Italy, Finland, and the Czech Republic, among others. Polish participants will come from Gdańsk, Warsaw, Zielona Góra, Kraków, Świdnik, Żabno, Sulejów, Lubartów, and Krasnobród.
CASSINI Space Camp will begin with a visit to the laboratories of the Rzeszów University of Technology, which are working on solutions for the space sector. This will be followed by a trip to Bezmiechowa and Lesko, where at the Polish Space Agency observatory, young people will conduct astronomical observations, build rockets, and also design and launch stratospheric balloons.
In Stalowa Wola, they will participate in drone workshops, radio communications workshops, and space-inspired art classes. The finale is scheduled for Krakow, during Europe's largest Mars rover competition – the European Rover Challenge.
During the summer camp, young people will work with leading experts in the Polish space sector. Among them are Maciej Myśliwiec, founder of the Space Agency; Kinga Gruszecka, president of the Association of Polish Space Professionals; Andrzej Majka, PhD, DSc, Eng, head of the Department of Aeronautical and Space Engineering at the Rzeszów University of Technology; and Robert Nowakowski, president of the Space Academy.
- Together with young participants, they will explore the secrets of space technologies, robotics, art and science to ignite their dreams of a future in space - announced Katarzyna Pochwat from the promotion and communication department of the Regional Development Agency in Stalowa Wola, which is the organizer of the camp.
Stalowa Wola is one of seven European cities, and the only one in Poland, to have received funding to host the CASSINI Space Camp. The space-themed summer camp is an initiative of the European Commission and the European Space Agency (EUSPA), which aims to inspire young people to pursue careers in the space sector. (PAP)
