Artem Nych begins his title defense today in the Maia prologue

A 3.4-kilometer prologue in Maia kicks off the 11 days of competition in the Tour of Portugal today and will determine who will be the first yellow jersey of the 86th edition.
The individual exercise against the clock of the 111 registered cyclists will begin at 15:35, with the departure of the Portuguese Diogo Narciso (Credibom-LA Alumínios-MarcosCar) and will end around two hours later, when the specialist Rafael Reis (Anicolor-Tien21) takes to the road, at 17:25.
Immediately before the winner of the prologue in the last four editions – and also in 2016 and 2018 – the Olympic champion of madison Iúri Leitão (Caja Rural) starts, with the equally 'national' Gonçalo Leaça (Credibom-LA Alumínios-MarcosCar), the fourth in the last edition, and António Carvalho (Feirense-Beeceler), the third classified in 2022 and 2023, taking to the road shortly before.
The only former winner present, Russian Artem Nych (Anicolor-Tien21) begins his fight against the clock at 17:09, on a journey in which he will seek to defend the title won last year and join the list of two-time champions of the Tour.
The cyclists will set off one minute apart and will have 3.4 kilometers ahead of them, starting at Avenida Altino Coelho and finishing at Avenida Luís de Camões, on a completely flat route.
The 86th Tour of Portugal takes place between today and August 17th, covering 1,581 kilometers, from Maia to Lisbon.
