Bolsonaro leaves hospital after tests and will continue treatment at home

Having served house arrest for just under two weeks, former President Jair Messias Bolsonaro spent the morning of Saturday the 16th undergoing health checkups. Bolsonaro was admitted to DF Star Hospital today at 9 a.m. After undergoing tests, he was found to have persistent esophagitis and gastritis. He will continue treatment at home.

This is the first time the former president has left his home since August 4, when Minister Alexandre de Moraes , of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), ordered his house arrest.

Moraes authorized the hospital visit last week, following a request from Bolsonaro's defense team. Also last week, doctors were authorized to visit the former president.

According to the medical report, he was hospitalized for investigation of a recent case of fever, cough, persistent episodes of gastroesophageal reflux and hiccups.

After laboratory and imaging tests , two recent lung infections were identified, possibly related to episodes of bronchoaspiration. This phenomenon occurs when food or liquid enters the airways instead of the esophagus and stomach.

Bolsonaro will have to continue treatment for high blood pressure, reflux, and preventative measures for bronchoaspiration .

Furthermore, endoscopy revealed persistent esophagitis and gastritis, but with less intensity. Doctors recommended continued drug treatment.

Since being stabbed during the 2018 election campaign, Bolsonaro has undergone seven surgeries and been hospitalized on more than 10 occasions, but continues to suffer from health problems.

The former president is under house arrest for failing to comply with the Supreme Court's order not to use social media, including through third parties.

In the same decision that granted the request from Bolsonaro's defense, Moraes authorized visits from Senator Rogério Marinho (PL-RN), Congressman Altineu Côrtes (PL-RJ), Deputy Mayor of São Paulo Ricardo Mello Araújo (PL) and State Deputy Tomé Abduch (Republicanos-SP).
