Freedom of expression

Freedom of expression

Regarding the dispute between Anjos and Joana Marques. In Portugal, freedom of expression is a right enshrined in the Constitution of the Portuguese Republic, specifically in Article 37. This article establishes that everyone has the right to freely express and disseminate their thoughts, without hindrance or discrimination, and that the exercise of these rights cannot be limited by any type of censorship. However, this right is not unlimited and may face restrictions when it conflicts with other fundamental rights, such as honor, privacy, and national security.

The Angels feel offended and harmed; that's their level of sensitivity. Joana Marques simply made fun of her. Period! Let the courts resolve the matter, and democracy will function.

Pacheco Pereira believes that insults fall within the scope of freedom of expression; the only thing that doesn't fall within the scope of freedom of expression is crime. Elon Musk calls himself a "freedom of expression absolutist," yet he systematically uses disinformation, and the essence of freedom of expression, for purposes that contradict him. Donald Trump is the most anti-democratic Democrat I know.

Freedom of expression cannot and should not be used as a weapon in political disputes. There is a right to inform, and those who misinform must be reported. Democracy cannot be allowed to be " hacked ." We must defend the basic limits that ensure democratic concepts continue to exist. This is not authoritarianism or censorship.

However, there is a danger for those who claim to be democratic and elected by democracy and then seek to redefine freedom of expression.

I've personally experienced what it's like to have freedom of expression restricted. At the time, the mayor of Gaia accused me of four crimes against honor. I simply denounced censorship: pressure to stop publishing my opinion pieces. Well, the Porto Criminal Investigation Court ruled in my favor, as did the Court of Appeal after an appeal.

Anyone who is a democrat must refuse to leave it to the enemies of democracy to define what constitutes democracy.
