Lula and Benin president discuss agriculture and air connections

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva received the President of Benin, Patrice Talon, in a meeting on the afternoon of Wednesday 25, at the Planalto Palace, in Brasília.
The meeting repeats Talon's visit to Brazil in May last year.
The two presidents discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation, especially in the areas of agriculture and vocational training. They also stressed the importance of establishing a direct air connection between Brazil and Benin to increase bilateral trade and foster business and leisure tourism.
“I reiterated our government’s priority with the African continent and ordered the organization of a mission with the purpose of examining concrete cooperation projects with Benin,” wrote Lula in a post on social media to publicize the meeting.
A small West African country located in the Gulf of Guinea, Benin has a population of just over 10 million and a predominantly agrarian economy. The official language is French, as a result of colonization by the European country.
After the bilateral meeting , according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, President Talon held meetings with representatives of the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa), the Brazilian Agency for International Tourism Promotion (Embratur) and the National Confederation of Industry (CNI), at the Itamaraty Palace.

After years of hardship , we are back to a Brazil that is at least somewhat normal. This new normal, however, remains full of uncertainties . The threat from Bolsonaro persists, and the appetites of the market and Congress continue to put pressure on the government. Abroad, the global advance of the far right and the brutality in Gaza and Ukraine risk imploding the fragile foundations of global governance.
