The Vouga Line between Oliveira de Azeméis and Sernada has been rehabilitated

Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP) announced the completion of the complete track rehabilitation on the Vouga Line (LV), between Oliveira de Azeméis and Sernada do Vouga. A company source reported that the project represented a total investment of €6.2 million, as part of the LV's ongoing rehabilitation plan, which includes the complete renovation and improvement of the regional railway's 96-kilometer length.

"The rehabilitation project consisted of renewing the track superstructure, with complete replacement of the rail, sleepers and fastenings, track ballast and heavy mechanical attack", IP noted, noting that, for 2026, a complementary intervention is planned to restore the train crossing at the Pinheiro da Bemposta and Albergaria-a-Velha stations.

The Vouga Line is used by thousands of passengers, directly serving the populations of the municipalities of Espinho, Santa Maria da Feira, São João da Madeira, Oliveira de Azeméis, Albergaria-a-Velha, Águeda and Aveiro.

The railway rehabilitation plan also includes the automation of approximately 70 level crossings, slope stabilization, and improved drainage systems. The installation of protective fencing and the improvement and relocation of some stops are also planned interventions.

Also according to the press release issued by the company, interventions have been completed on the sections between Santa Maria da Feira and Oliveira de Azeméis, and between Oliveira de Azeméis and Sernada do Vouga, as well as between Sernada do Vouga and Águeda.

Contracts were also carried out to rehabilitate the road and rail bridge in Sernada do Vouga and to provide structural rehabilitation and anti-corrosion protection for the bridge over the Águeda River.
