Who is Olga at 70?

Who is Olga at 70?

If in "Time, That Great Sculptor," Marguerite Yourcenar explores the influence of time on art and life, using the metaphor of time as a sculptor that shapes and transforms everything that exists; in the solo "The Salvaged," Olga Roriz reflects on how time affects memory, dreams, and desires—hers and those of her generation—the pain that death provokes, the moments of shared happiness, the complicities and gestures torn from the depths. Rescued from oneself. Or perhaps the "saved" is that which "is saved, that which is strong, that which remains within me," she says, and which, perhaps, she has not yet dissected.

The verb "dissect" implies a scalpel. The image is harsh. Will the body withstand this "scalpel"? 70 years of life, 50 of career, and 30 of company. In the solos that have marked her career, dancer and choreographer Olga Roriz did not speak to the audience.

She was exposed, yes, but without words. Just her body. And it was always a way of "keeping the house in order," she tells JE before the solo premiere, to keep "my head in disarray." "And sometimes, there are things that take us out of place, that take us somewhere else, which may not be where we want to be, or we get shaken, or whatever," she explains.
