'Childish provocation': PT leader reacts to the choice of a pro-Bolsonaro rapporteur for the IOF

The leader of the PT in the Chamber of Deputies, Lindbergh Farias (RJ), classified as a “childish provocation” the choice of Bolsonarista Colonel Chrisóstomo (PL-RO) as rapporteur of the project that should overturn the government decree on changes to the IOF .

In a decision that surprised the Planalto Palace and even the opposition, the president of the Chamber, Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB), scheduled the vote on the legislative decree project for this Wednesday 25th .

Last week, the House approved the request for urgency so that the proposal could be processed in an accelerated manner. However, with the National Congress empty due to the São João festivities, there was an expectation that the vote on the merits would not take place this week.

According to Lindbergh, government leaders only found out about Wednesday's agenda after reading a post by Motta in X late Tuesday night.

“We were taken by surprise by a tweet . A topic of this gravity needed to be discussed at the College of Leaders” , criticized the PT leader. “Most of the deputies are not even in Brasília.”

Furthermore, Lindbergh stated, “designating a histrionic Bolsonarist to report this story is a childish provocation” and demonstrates that “there is no room for dialogue.”

The Lula government announced the IOF adjustment on May 22, but backtracked hours later. On June 11, the Executive published a provisional measure on investment taxation and proposals for spending cuts, in addition to a new decree with IOF rates lower than those initially advocated.
