Aveiro region leads the ranking of 'gazelle' companies in the center of the country

Aveiro region leads the ranking of 'gazelle' companies in the center of the country

The Aveiro Region once again leads the ranking of 'gazelle' companies in the centre of the country, according to data released today by the Regional Coordination and Development Commission (CCDRC).

The 'gazelles' are “young companies that, in a short period of time, have demonstrated significant growth, both in terms of job creation and turnover”.

According to a press release from the CCDRC, the Aveiro Region “continues to assert itself as one of the most dynamic sub-regions in the Central region, having once again recorded the highest volume of business and the highest value of exports from 'gazelle' companies in the region”.

According to the survey carried out by the Regional Coordination and Development Commission of the Center, the 31 'gazelle' companies in the Aveiro Region employed 1,146 workers in 2023, “more than tripling the number registered in 2020 (334 workers), reflecting the high potential of these companies to generate new jobs”.

“The Aveiro Region maintains the highest turnover of 'gazelle' companies among all the sub-regions of the Central region, totaling around 218 million euros in 2023, which represents 31% of the region's total”, states the press release.

The data collected in the text also reveals that the turnover of these companies “registered very significant growth between 2020 and 2023, rising from 25 million to 218 million euros, that is, an increase of almost nine times”.

Aveiro “maintains a benchmark performance in the panorama of ‘gazelle’ companies in the region, confirming the capacity for innovation, dynamism and resilience of its business fabric and consolidating its role as one of the main drivers of economic growth in the center of the country”, reads the text.

Of the 181 companies recognised with the 'gazelle' attribute, 31 are located in municipalities of the Intermunicipal Community of the Aveiro Region (CIRA), with Aveiro having ten, Águeda seven, Ílhavo five, and Albergaria-a-Velha, Anadia and Ovar two in each Municipality.

Completing the list in the CIRA territory are Oliveira do Bairro, Sever do Vouga and Vagos with a 'gazelle' company, in each municipality.
