Former PSOE ministers call for Sánchez's resignation

Following calls from the opposition , calls for Pedro Sánchez's resignation have come from within the party itself. More than 30 former senior PSOE leaders and ministers signed a letter addressed to the Spanish Prime Minister on Tuesday asking for his resignation to "restore the honour" of the party "and its members", the newspaper El Español revealed.
Among the group of 38 former leaders are two ministers from the governments of Felipe González, Javier Sáenz de Cosculluela and José Barrio Nuevo, a minister from the government of José Luis Zapatero, Cesar Antonio Molina, and two former presidents of the Senate, Javier Rojo and Juan José Laborda.
The letter comes after suspicions of corruption cases that have affected several party leaders, including the investigation that implicates the number three, Santos Cerdán, the former Minister of Transport José Luís Ábalos (since expelled from the party), and Koldo García, a former advisor.
[The police are called to a house after a noise complaint. When they arrive, the officers find a wild birthday party. But the birthday boy, José Valbom, has disappeared. “ O Zé faz 25” is Observador’s first fiction podcast, co-produced by Coyote Vadio and featuring the voices of Tiago Teotónio Pereira, Sara Matos, Madalena Almeida, Cristovão Campos, Vicente Wallenstein, Beatriz Godinho, José Raposo and Carla Maciel. The signatories of this letter denounced “cases of corruption” linked to people who have the leader’s “utmost trust”, and also criticised the “government practice” that has been “ characterised by spurious political decisions ”. “We refer, among other aspects, to the unjustified expansion of the State budget, the progressive marginalisation of legislative power, the repeated failure to fulfil electoral commitments, the degradation of the rule of law, the discretionary exercise of executive power, the occupation of State control bodies”, the socialist militants also criticised, taking the opportunity to denounce what they consider to be the “opaque” negotiation of the amnesty law for Catalan convicts , in particular former president Carles Puigdemont.
Thus, for this group, a “regeneration” of the institutions is necessary in the face of a “ democratic setback ”, which must begin with a “ regeneration of the PSOE ”. “We are convinced that this task cannot be led by the person who was directly responsible for the current process of institutional degradation ”, the letter reads.
“We transmit this request to you with the respect that your position deserves, but with the firm conviction that a profound change is essential to preserve the future of democratic socialism in Spain ,” the petitioners conclude.
