Parliament rejects closure of large-scale businesses on Sundays

The closure of large stores on Sundays and public holidays and the reduction of the opening hours of these spaces until 10 pm was today rejected by the PSD, CDS, Chega, PS and IL.
Livre, Bloco de Esquerda and PCP were in favour of these initiatives, whilst PAN, although it did not clearly state its position, said that it was “more than time” to review the opening hours of commercial establishments.
A group of citizens presented a proposal to change the opening hours of commercial establishments.
This proposal, signed by more than 23,000 people, foresees the closure of shops on Sundays and holidays and the reduction of the opening hours of these spaces until 22:00.
The Left Bloc presented a bill that also aims to close large commercial areas on Sundays and holidays.
The diploma contains an exception for cinemas and catering establishments.
