MOSCOW, September 28 - RIA Novosti. A law will come into effect in Russia on March 1, 2027, under which citizens' driver's licenses will be revoked if they are diagnosed with dangerous illnesses, including mental disorders, Sergei Leonov, head of the State Duma Committee on Health, told RIA Novosti. "In Russia, a law will come into effect on March 1, 2027, under which citizens' driver's licenses will be revoked if they are diagnosed with dangerous illnesses, including mental disorders," Leonov said. He noted that such a real-time monitoring system is currently being developed, and medical databases are currently being integrated with those of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. "How will this work in practice? For example, a person may have had a driver's license for two years and drive comfortably. However, it happens that they develop a mental illness, which is precisely what contraindicates driving," the politician added. Leonov clarified that as soon as it becomes known that a person is contraindicated for driving, a corresponding signal will be sent to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and their license will be immediately revoked. He emphasized that the notification will not include their diagnosis, only that they have medical reasons for revoking their license. "Previously, a person could continue driving until their license expired, which is 10 years. And this applies even if they develop medical contraindications. The new amendments will allow for the revocation of a license upon detection of such a condition," the Duma committee head concluded.

MOSCOW, September 28 - RIA Novosti. A law will come into effect in Russia on March 1, 2027, according to which a citizen's driver's license will be revoked if they are diagnosed with dangerous illnesses, including mental disorders, Sergei Leonov, head of the State Duma Committee on Health, told RIA Novosti.
He noted that such a monitoring system is currently being built in real time, and medical databases are currently being integrated with the Ministry of Internal Affairs databases.
"How will this work in practice? For example, someone has had a driver's license for two years and drives without any problems. However, it happens that they develop a mental illness, which is precisely what makes driving illegal," the politician added.
Leonov clarified that as soon as it becomes known that a person's license is contraindicated, a corresponding signal will be sent to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and their license will be immediately revoked.
He emphasized that his diagnosis will not be stated there, but it will only state that the person has medical indications to revoke his license.
"Previously, a person could continue driving until their driver's license expired, which is 10 years. This was true even if they had medical contraindications. The new changes will allow for the revocation of a license upon detection of such a condition," the Duma committee head concluded.
