Young Novgorod driver to be tried for fatal accident on M-11

The Vyshnevolotsk interdistrict prosecutor's office of the Tver region approved the indictment against a 23-year-old driver from Veliky Novgorod. The man is accused of violating traffic rules, which resulted in the death of a person.

The incident itself occurred in September 2023 on the M-11 highway. According to the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate, the accused was driving at a speed of more than 200 km/h, and due to prolonged movement and such speed, the tire overheated, as a result of which the rear wheel became depressurized. This caused the uncontrolled movement of the car, a collision with the structures of the fences, leaving the roadway and subsequent overturning of the vehicle. As a result of the accident, one passenger of the car died, and 2 received serious bodily harm.

Let us add that over the past week, from June 30 to July 6, 2025, employees of the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Novgorod Region prevented 35,891 violations of traffic rules, of which 34,646 were with the help of photo and video recording systems.

«От управления транспортными средствами отстранены 22 водителя, допустивших управление в нетрезвом состоянии либо отказавшихся от прохождения медицинского освидетельствования, из них 3 – за повторное вождение в нетрезвом виде», – подчеркнул начальник Управления Госавтоинспекции УМВД России по Новгородской области полковник полиции Виктор Гаврилов .
