Russia plans to ban users from changing the identification numbers of mobile devices (IMEI), the Izvestia newspaper reports, citing amendments to the federal law "On Communications" developed by the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media of the Russian Federation.
The proposed changes are part of a larger bill aimed at combating cybercrime. The initiative would create a single database of mobile devices and introduce blacklists of unique IMEIs.
The document notes that if signs of unreliability of the identifier data or facts of illegal actions are detected, the relevant information will be sent to the state information system to combat offenses.
Experts emphasize that fraudsters often change IMEI, which allows them to hide the devices used to commit fraudulent activities.
It was also reported that from June 1, it will become more difficult to lift the self-ban on loans.
