Taking care of yourself: zoomers want developed self-care infrastructure in business centers

Analysts have recorded an interesting trend in the Russian office market: the overwhelming majority of representatives of Generation Z – people born between 1997 and 2012 – when choosing a workplace pay close attention to whether the business centers where they will work have medical offices, fitness rooms, relaxation areas and consultations with doctors.

For 60% of Generation Z employees, the presence of self-care infrastructure in a business center is an important factor. This is the conclusion reached by Rariteco Development Director Ekaterina Borisova, who, together with her colleagues , conducted a study among zoomers.

According to her, the concept of self-care, focused on taking care of physical and mental health, is becoming increasingly popular, especially among the younger generation. Zoomers, who grew up in the era of digital technologies and high speeds, understand the importance of a balance between work and personal life. For them, self-care is not just a trend, but a necessity that allows them to maintain a high level of productivity and vital energy. Therefore, when choosing a workplace, zoomers pay close attention to how much the employer cares about the well-being of their employees, providing opportunities for maintaining health and harmonious development.

Among the most popular options among zoomers is the availability of a medical office with the possibility of consultations with various specialists, including a therapist. The services of personal trainers and classes in modern fitness centers are also in high demand. In addition, representatives of the first truly digital generation, which did not know the world without the Internet and smartphones, note the importance of psychological comfort and express interest in consultations with psychologists and nutritionists right in the business center. Such a comprehensive approach to self-care allows employees to effectively combine work with maintaining health and well-being. For example, one of the respondents noted: “I want to be able to “reboot” during the workday. The ability to take short breaks increases my efficiency.”

The location of the office and the atmosphere in it also play an important role for zoomers. 70% of respondents claim that the location of the office affects their attitude to work and the employer. Even more employees - 87% - note that their mood depends on the location. Convenient transport accessibility, proximity to the metro and the presence of developed infrastructure around the business center - shops, cafes, parks - are important for the younger generation. One of the study participants emphasized: "If the road takes too much time, and inconvenient routes with crowds of people are added to this, the mood is spoiled from the very morning." Zoomers prefer to work in modern buildings with panoramic windows, ergonomic workstations and specially equipped recreation areas where they can relax and recuperate.

A sense of security and comfort in the office is another important aspect for zoomers. 92% of respondents confirmed the presence of an automated checkpoint and security in their business center. However, despite this, 86% of respondents expressed dissatisfaction with the level of security, wanting to see a “more modern and reliable checkpoint.” In addition, employees pay attention to such details as the width of corridors, the number of elevators and the absence of queues. “In the morning, we are all irritable: you are late, you haven’t had your coffee, there are traffic jams on the roads - and then there is the eternal lack of elevators for such a flow of employees. As a result, you have to spend about 15 minutes in line to get to your floor. It is annoying,” shared one of the survey participants.

– Today, an office is a multifunctional space where employees spend a significant part of the day. Therefore, it is so important to take into account the needs of the younger generation and create a comfortable environment that promotes productive work and health, – notes Borisova.

She sees huge potential in developing self-care infrastructure in business centers.

In future projects, developers need to actively implement such options as medical offices, fitness rooms, relaxation zones and consultations with psychologists and nutritionists. In addition, close attention should be paid to safety and comfort issues. We are confident that this approach will make offices more attractive to zoomers and increase their loyalty to the employer, – the expert concluded.
