Demand for expulsion of academics who delay cancer patients' treatment!

Prof. Dr. MT, Prof. Dr. ABT, Prof. Dr. Ü.O., and Instructor Dr. MA, who served in the Ear, Nose, and Throat Diseases Polyclinic at Akdeniz University and held positions such as vice rector and chief physician, were suspended from their duties last March as part of an investigation into delays in cancer patient treatment, irregular transactions with the Social Security Institution (SGK), and systematic mobbing of research assistants.
The disciplinary investigation into the allegations in question has been completed.
Manipulation of Social Security InstitutionAt the end of the investigation, it was determined that professors MT, ABT, Ü.O. and Dr. MA carried out transactions contrary to the SGK legislation in the clinic where they worked and made irregular collections by manipulating surgery codes.
The report stated that some surgeries were entered into the system as if they had been performed even though they had never been performed, and that surgeries performed at the end of the month were shown as if they had been performed again the following month, and that the Social Security Institution (SGK) was charged a second time.
Treatment of cancer patients has been delayedAccording to allegations, it was determined that the academics in question postponed the surgeries of patients with cancer or suspected cancer on the grounds that there was "no intensive care space" and gave priority to their own special patient groups.
The investigation included allegations such as, “They gave cancer patients appointments weeks in the future, while their own patients were prioritized in intensive care for procedures such as robotic sleep apnea surgery.”
MOBBING ALLEGATIONThe investigation report also stated that the four academics systematically pressured research assistants, arranged their work plans according to their personal preferences, and knowingly prevented some assistants from receiving education.
In the statements, it was reported that faculty members made statements such as, 'I only teach those who are on my team, and those who are not on my team, they will lose their tonsils and leave' and that they subjected assistants to psychological violence by forcing them to do forced labor.
The report, which stated that some research assistants were tried to be intimidated with threatening statements, included statements such as, "I will make such allegations about you, I will disturb you psychologically, you will travel around Istanbul and Ankara to fix this."
"BEHAVIOR INCOMPATIBLE WITH PUBLIC SERVICE"As a result of the investigation, the accusations made against the four individuals were evaluated within the scope of "disgraceful and shameful acts of a nature and degree incompatible with public service or the title of a teaching staff."
As a result of the disciplinary investigation, a penalty of dismissal from public service was proposed for Prof. Dr. MT, Prof. Dr. ABT, Prof. Dr. Ü.O. and Dr. MA, in accordance with subparagraphs b-6 and c of article 53 of Law No. 2547.
As a result of the investigation involving numerous irregularities and accusations against 4 academics, 3 of whom are professors, the proposal to dismiss them from public service was approved by the Rectorate and sent to the Presidency of YÖK.
On the other hand, during the investigation process, it was learned that Dr. MA resigned in April last month and Prof. Dr. Ü.O. retired in July.
Once the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) completes its review of the file in question, a final decision on the academics is expected to be made shortly.
SENT TO YÖKFormer Vice Rector Prof. Dr. MT also made headlines after a hidden camera he had installed in front of his office, which was not part of the university's security system, was detected. A separate disciplinary investigation was also conducted into this incident.
It was stated that the use of the camera constituted abuse of office, breach of trust and violation of the privacy of personal life, and a proposal for a penalty of "dismissal from public service" was again sent to the Council of Higher Education.
