15-year-old charged after car speeds through north London, rams police cruisers

What may have started off as a joy ride ended in five charges against a 15-year-old London teen.

Police say they spotted a car at around 4 a.m. Monday without its lights on, speeding through a parking lot near Fanshawe Park Road and Richmond Street. The vehicle turned on Fanshawe Park Road East but didn't stop when an officer put on its lights and sirens.

Officers didn't pursue the vehicle, which sped off, but found it a short time later on the side of the road in the area of Wintergarden Road and Cobblestone Street, close to Highbury Avenue.

"The driver, in an effort to flee police rammed two police vehicles before being arrested," officers said in a media statement.

No one was injured.

A 15-year-old boy from London is charged with:

  • Fail to stop for police/pursuit.
  • Take motor vehicle without consent.
  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
  • Careless driving.
  • Drive motor vehicle no license.

The teen can't be named because of provisions in the Youth Criminal Justice Act. He's scheduled to make a court appearance in August.
