[…] According to initial information, it appears to be a former trader from Marmande, aged 79, and now retired. The latter is said to have bid 11,050 euros. “Shame on him,” reacts the CR 47, which will “try to meet the person in question.” Whatever happens, the union promises, in agreement with the Chamber of Agriculture, “to do everything in our power to return to Lucas’s family what belongs to him.” A press release was also issued by the CR 47. “Mr. Deboute, a former trader and candidate on a list in the last municipal elections, outbid, within the legal period of 10 days, the offer from SAFER and the Chamber of Agriculture. According to La Dépêche , Lucas Wafflart, an 18-year-old from Lot-et-Garonne studying for a vocational baccalaureate in agricultural equipment, is fighting to save his grandparents' farm in Mauvezin-sur-Gupie, which is threatened with being auctioned off on Thursday, June 19. The family farm, which is in debt to the tune of €100,000 after years of debt and a compulsory liquidation in 2016, is to be put at €140,000.
The young man, supported by the Rural Coordination 47 (CR 47), the chamber of agriculture, and his mother Christelle, launched an online fundraising campaign to buy the farm. "We're shattering my kid's dream," she laments, while José Perez, co-president of CR 47, asserts: "There's no way the farm will be bought by anyone other than this young man."
The CR 47 is calling for any external auction to be prevented and is even considering the possibility of the Chamber of Agriculture buying the farm and selling it to Lucas. Union members are denouncing a surge in similar sales in the department, describing the situation as "unacceptable" in a context where 10% of farms in Lot-et-Garonne could disappear by the end of 2025.
If they fail to intervene, the sale could also evict the grandparents from their home. "We're going to do everything we can to ensure that you leave court with a smile on your face on Thursday, Lucas," concludes Karine Duc, co-president of CR 47.
