Cinema Cinema in Périgueux: An eclectic summer program at the CGR

Festivals, retrospectives, and young audiences: the Ciné Cinéma association is rolling out a rich summer program at the heart of the CGR, with award-winning films and previews.

Located in the heart of the CGR multiplex in Périgueux, the Ciné Cinéma association is rolling out a rich summer program, although it's slightly tightened this year. "We have a very reduced reverse-angle program, with fewer screenings accompanied by directors or specialists," explains Jean-Michel Hellio, the association's programmer. This program has been compiled with several films straight from the biggest festivals, with an opening also for younger audiences.

Proposals for everyone

Among the anticipated events, the partnership with Macadam Jazz is renewed. On Sunday, July 27, echoing the music festival, Ciné Cinéma will screen "Il était une fois Michel Legrand." Another pillar of the season: the renewed "Retour à écran" program. It offers a retrospective of seven notable films from the first semester's program: "Vingt Dieux"; "Black Dog"; "The Brutalist"; "Je suis toujours là"; "La Chambre de Mariana"; "L'Attachement"; "La Chambre d'à côté." Each film is screened twice during the Fête du cinéma, then repeated for a week during the summer with four additional screenings. "We try to have a diverse offering," insists Jean-Michel Hellio.

For younger audiences, Ciné Cinéma is bringing back the Little Film Festival, a joint initiative of youth distributors. Animated films themed around the aquatic world, monsters, and fairy tales will be offered, for ages 3 and up, including "The Tiger Who Came to Tea," "The Gruffalo," and "Child's Play!" Two previews will also punctuate the summer: "Shaun the Sheep: Farmyard Madness" in early July, and "Timioche" to close out the month of August.

Films presented at festivals

But the program doesn't stop there. Ciné Cinéma has also chosen to highlight films from major international festivals, from Cannes to the Reims Polar Festival, including the Les Arcs Film Festival.

Returning from the Croisette, the public will be able to discover "Les Filles Désir" or "L'Aventura," a burlesque comedy by Sophie Letourneur starring Philippe Katerine, which examines family dynamics with a wacky eye. "I Love Peru," by Raphaël Quenard, will offer a metaphysical and autobiographical dive against the backdrop of South American conquest.

Among the other screenings selected, several are from the Les Arcs Festival. The Grand Prize and the Best Actress Award went to "Loveable," which tells the story of the daily life of a Norwegian couple caught up in discord. "Peacock," winner of the Audience Award, promises to be more unique: it follows a man ready to play any role and be the character of your dreams for anyone who needs it. Also on the bill: "Touch" and "Kneecap."

Finally, on the thriller side, the Reims Polar Festival brings its touch of darkness and suspense with "Des feux dans la plaine", a Chinese thriller about an unsolved investigation, and "Islands", winner of the festival's grand prize.
