Inspired by Japanese kei cars, the Romanian brand's latest concept gives a glimpse of the next category of affordable battery-powered city cars.
The planets are aligning. It is at a time when the European Commission is supporting the E-car project , under pressure from manufacturers and the ACEA (European Automobile Manufacturers' Association), to create a new category of small electric cars, that Dacia is presenting a model of this type in the form of the Hipster concept . In fact, the idea of a city car inspired by Japanese "kei cars" was on Luca de Meo's mind since he arrived at the head of the Renault group in 2020.
Before leaving the company last July to join the luxury group Kering, the Italian had successfully moved from the idea stage to reality. The Hipster remains a concept, but it is mature enough to become a reality if the conditions are finally met, that is, if the European Commission grants special treatment to this new family of vehicles by easing the regulations.
