The World's 50 Best Restaurants reveals part of its ranking, with only one Frenchman present

Ahead of the June 19th edition of the world's best restaurants, the highly anticipated ranking of the world's best restaurants has announced its rankings from 51st to 100th. France has dropped from five restaurants last year to one, which ranks 77th .
The 2025 World's 50 Best Restaurants ceremony, which annually presents its contested but influential ranking of the world's 50 best restaurants, based on votes from a panel of 1,120 "independent culinary experts" (chefs, journalists and "globetrotting foodies" ), will be presented on June 19 from Turin, the capital of Piedmont .
To get the event going, the William Reed Group, which organizes it, is releasing the announcements. Already presented in recent months are: the best female chef of the year (Pichaya, known as Pam, Soontornyanakij, of Potong restaurant in Bangkok); the art of hospitality award (at Wing restaurant in Hong Kong); the rising star (Kufu's restaurant in Cairo); and the "champion of change" with a sustainable approach (Mindy Woods, of Karkalla On Country in Australia).
As the pressure mounts for the final ranking, here is the bottom of the list, namely the restaurants that did not make it into the top 50, but were still cited by the panel of voters. In 2024, five French restaurants appeared in positions 51 to 100. There is only one left this year! It is the Doyenné, the excellent farm-inn launched in 2022, in the village of Saint-Vrain (Essonne), by the Australian chefs James Henry and Shaun Kelly, which falls seven places, ranking 77th .
What about the other four "Frenchies" ranked last year: Flocons de Sel (Megève), La Grenouillère (La Madelaine-sous-Montreuil), Alléno Paris, and Ceto (Roquebrune-Cap-Martin)? The last one has closed its doors. For the other three, there are two exit options: the front door (the top 50) or the back door (disappearance from the rankings). The answer will come on June 19, when all eyes on France will be on Table de Bruno Verjus (Paris). Third last year, will the self-taught chef manage to climb to the top step of the podium?
This "second division" ranking includes restaurants located in 25 territories and 37 cities, spread across six continents. Europe has 20 (including 4 in Germany), Asia 9, and North and South America 8 each. New entries include the highly successful Al Gatto Verde (92nd), by Jessica Rosval, in Massimo Bottura's Casa Maria Luigia in Modena. And Amisfield Restaurant ( 99th ), in Queenstown, the first New Zealand restaurant to enter the list.
