Fedriga-Schillaci Summit: cordial meeting and work for the new healthcare system

WATCH THE VIDEO SERVICE. A cordial meeting in a constructive climate to reach a shared solution to tackle a national health system that requires some adjustments that could also have repercussions in Friuli Venezia Giulia. The summit between the Minister of Health Orazio Schillaci and the President of the Conference of Regions and Governor of Friuli Venezia Giulia, Massimiliano Fedriga, ended after a long discussion.

The minister assured that the goal is not to appoint commissioners to the regions but to support them. The central issue is that of waiting lists and on this the minister emphasizes how there is a need for teamwork "but the minister can be more or less good, the president more or less good, but the general director of a local health authority or hospital must be good and well paid. And then - continues Schillaci - we need to motivate the staff better and it is not just an economic problem, most of them are overwhelmed by a huge bureaucratic load".

President Massimiliano Fedriga reiterated the need for a reform in particular of general medicine "on acute cases the system is able to give excellent answers, the problem is the chronic cases that then saturate the hospital response and the emergency rooms. Citizens do not find answers before. We therefore need a serious reform of territorial medicine and we need courage. We must work on the appropriateness and responsibility of prescriptions, something that today is scarce and not always present" concluded Fedriga.
